Puntland President Deni to attend upcoming NCC meeting in Mogadishu

    Mogadishu (HOL) – The Somali Federal Government has confirmed that Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni will participate in the upcoming National Consultative Council (NCC) meeting scheduled to take place in Mogadishu next month.

    A senior federal government official stated that President Deni had been formally invited and that preparations are underway for his attendance.

    The meeting, convened by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, will bring together federal and regional leaders to address political differences, enhance national unity, and strengthen the fight against extremist groups including ISIS and Al-Shabaab.

    According to reliable sources, the international community has played a key role in facilitating President Deni’s return to the national dialogue. Diplomatic representatives reportedly met him several times in Garowe and Bosaso to emphasize the importance of Puntland rejoining the consultative process.

    President Deni has boycotted the NCC meetings since December 2022, amid a deepening rift between the Puntland administration and the federal government. Relations between the two sides have been strained, with cooperation and communication virtually stalled over political disagreements.

    The upcoming forum is expected to address key national issues, including electoral reforms, power-sharing, and security coordination, with the goal of restoring inclusive dialogue and national cohesion.
