Sunday August 31, 2025

Mogadishu (HOL) — Somalia and Djibouti signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Saturday to establish a formal mechanism for regular political consultations between the two countries.

Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdisalam Abdi Ali, and Djibouti’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Abdulqadir Hussein Omar, signed the agreement during a meeting in Mogadishu.

The MoU aims to strengthen diplomatic cooperation and advance the two nations’ priorities at regional and global levels. Discussions also focused on enhancing bilateral ties, promoting security and regional stability, and addressing international issues of mutual interest.

Both ministers stressed the importance of close collaboration to achieve peace, development, and prosperity across the Horn of Africa. However, neither government disclosed further details about the agreement.

Somalia and Djibouti, which share deep historical and cultural ties, continue to build on their longstanding partnership to promote cooperation and closer relations.
