Somali Ambassador attends Türkiye’s Victory Day celebration

Sunday August 31, 2025

Ankara (HOL) — Somali Ambassador to Türkiye, Fathudin Ali Mohamed Ospite, on Saturday attended a ceremony marking the 103rd anniversary of Türkiye’s Victory Day on Aug. 30.

During the event, Ambassador Ospite congratulated President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on the occasion and conveyed greetings and best wishes from Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

“Turkey and Somalia share many strong ties,” Ospite said, emphasizing the enduring friendship between the two nations.

President Erdoğan, along with other distinguished guests, attended the ceremony, highlighting the day as a symbol of the Turkish nation’s determination for freedom, resilience, and eternal independence.

“As a nation, we are once again experiencing the pride and enthusiasm of Aug. 30 Victory Day, one of the golden milestones in our history,” Erdoğan said.

The Turkish leader stressed that the Great Victory is not merely a historic memory, but “a guide acting as a source of light” for the nation’s future.

Victory Day commemorates the decisive Battle of Dumlupinar fought between Aug. 26 and 30, 1922, when Turkish forces defeated the invading Greek army in what is now central Türkiye’s Kütahya province. The victory marked the final major battle of the Turkish War of Independence, paving the way for the expulsion of foreign forces and the establishment of the Republic of Türkiye in 1923.
