Djibouti City, DJIBOUTI (HOL) — Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre met with Djibouti’s President Ismail Omar Guelleh on Monday to strengthen bilateral cooperation and address growing regional security concerns in the Horn of Africa.

The high-level meeting, held at the presidential palace in Djibouti, focused on advancing political and economic collaboration and reaffirming both countries’ commitment to regional stability. Officials said the talks underscored the strategic importance of deepening ties as Somalia prepares for a complete transition from African Union peacekeeping forces and continues to rebuild key state institutions.

Prime Minister Hamza praised Djibouti for its consistent support of Somalia’s federal government, describing the relationship as one built on brotherhood and shared interests. He noted that his administration has achieved measurable progress in development, security, governance, and economic reform through strong inter-agency collaboration.

President Guelleh reaffirmed Djibouti’s commitment to backing Somalia’s state-building and peace efforts, emphasizing the country’s role in promoting security and reconciliation among Somali communities across the Horn of Africa.

The meeting follows shifting geopolitical dynamics in the region, including Ethiopia’s maritime ambitions, Gulf state involvement, and renewed diplomatic activity among East African nations aimed at bolstering cross-border cooperation and stability.
