Mogadishu (HOL) — A new group of Somali National Army (SNA)
commandos graduated on Saturday after completing intensive training at the
TURKSOM Military Training Academy in Mogadishu, part of a joint military
programme between Somalia and Türkiye.
Senior Somali government officials, including Defence
Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, Second Deputy Prime Minister Jibril Abdirashid
Haji, army commanders, and representatives from the Turkish training mission,
attended the ceremony.
In his remarks, Defence Minister Fiqi reaffirmed the
government’s commitment to strengthening, modernising, and equipping the Somali
National Army to ensure its capability to defeat terrorist groups and safeguard
the country’s sovereignty.
“The newly graduated commandos will play a key role in the
ongoing fight against al-Shabaab,” Minister Fiqi said.
“The Somali army is the backbone of a strong and
self-reliant state. You must take responsibility and be ready to liberate our
country from the enemy and restore its dignity.”
The graduation represents another milestone in the Federal
Government’s broader efforts to enhance the professionalism, discipline, and
operational readiness of the Somali Armed Forces as part of building a unified
national army.
Established in 2017, the TURKSOM Military Academy has
trained thousands of Somali officers and continues to play a critical role in
supporting Somalia’s security sector through bilateral cooperation aimed at
ensuring peace, security, and stability.
