Mogadishu (HOL) - Somalia’s Ambassador to Algeria, Yusuf
Ahmed Hassan, met with Algeria’s National Police Commander, Ali Badaoui, in
Algiers on Monday to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation in policing.
The two officials agreed to enhance collaboration in police
capacity-building, specialized training, and the use of scientific and
technical methods in criminal investigations, including fingerprint and DNA
analysis.
Ambassador Hassan emphasized that the two governments are
also working to deepen cooperation in other vital sectors as Somalia continues
to strengthen its ties with Algeria and other African nations.
Last month, Algeria and Somalia agreed to establish a joint
governmental committee to boost economic cooperation and create a formal
mechanism for political consultations. The agreement was announced during the
visit of Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf to Mogadishu.
During the visit, Minister Attaf and his Somali counterpart,
Abdelsalam Abdi Ali, signed agreements aimed at expanding bilateral ties across
trade, education, agriculture, and diplomacy. The deal includes cooperation in
training diplomats, enhancing vocational and higher education programs, and
promoting investment in key sectors such as agriculture, marine fisheries, and
red meat exports.
