Mogadishu (HOL) - Members of the Somali Federal Parliament
and senior officials visited the Somali army hospital in Mogadishu on Saturday,
where soldiers injured in Friday’s battle in El-Dheer district, Galgaduud
region, are receiving treatment.
The lawmakers and officials praised the soldiers for their
bravery in repelling the Al-Shabaab attack and pledged that the Somali
government and people would continue to stand by the national army.
“We want to give good news to their families and children
that the bodies of the terrorists have been found, which is a victory for the
Somali people. To the heroes of the National Army and those fighting for
justice in the area, we say: May God have mercy on the dead and grant them
peace,” said MP Yasin Fareey.
According to the Defence Ministry, 30 militants including
commanders were killed, while several Al-Shabaab commanders known for targeting
civilians were captured. Residents told Hiiraan Online that militant bodies
remained scattered outside the town, underscoring the scale of the group’s
losses.
Defence Minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi praised the joint forces
for “bravely defending El-Dheer,” adding that the militants had been unable to
retrieve their dead and wounded.
