Northeastern administration accuses Somaliland of military mobilization

Wednesday September 17, 2025

Las Anod (HOL) - The Northeastern administration has accused the Somaliland authorities of mobilizing troops along disputed border areas, alleging preparations for an attack against the newly formed Northeastern regional government.

In a statement issued by its Ministry of Security on Wednesday, the Northeastern administration said it was “closely monitoring” military movements by Somaliland, warning that the actions posed “a grave threat to peace and stability” in the region and could destabilize the wider Horn of Africa.

“This planned action poses a grave threat to the peace and stability we have worked hard to establish, and could affect the entire Horn of Africa region,” the statement read.

The administration warned that Somaliland would be held fully responsible for the consequences of what it described as “aggression” and urged the Federal Government of Somalia to uphold its constitutional duty to protect the country’s territorial integrity. It also appealed to the United Nations, African Union, IGAD, the Arab League, and other international partners to condemn Somaliland’s alleged actions.

While saying it preferred dialogue and peaceful resolution, the Northeastern administration vowed it was prepared to defend itself against any attack.

Somaliland has not publicly acknowledged any troop movements in the disputed areas and has yet to respond to the accusations.

The two sides have clashed in recent months over control of contested territories in the Northeastern region, leading to heavy casualties on both sides.
